Over 600 jobs created in the local community
The Capita Group Plc, in support of its strategic partnership with Birmingham City Council, has to date created over 600 new jobs in Birmingham since 2006.
Alongside the launch of the Service Birmingham strategic partnership in April 2006, Capita demonstrated its commitment to the Council by guaranteeing Capita would create over 800 jobs within seven years. The interim target to create 520 jobs by March 2011 has therefore been reached over a year early.
Councillor Paul Tilsley, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “These new jobs are permanent fulltime posts within the local community and therefore contribute directly to improving the local economy. We are very pleased to have reached this key milestone and look forward to a successful next phase of our relationship with Capita.”
Paul Pindar, Chief Executive of Capita, commented: “We are delighted with the progress made since partnering with Birmingham City Council to support the delivery of its business transformation programme and add value to the local community and economy. The fact that we have surpassed our interim target for job creation is clear recognition of the commitment and drive from all those delivering services at Capita and Service Birmingham. We are clearly on track to deliver, or even exceed, our target of creating 800 jobs by 2013.”
The new jobs are predominantly in professional administrative, technical and clerical areas. The majority of jobs have been created by Capita expanding or establishing new operations in the Birmingham area. This includes outsourced operations that Capita runs for such clients as the Learning Skills Council, BECTA, Seven Trent Water and Pearl and Capita’s own property and infrastructure consultancy, Capita Symonds, as well as IT and print operations. New jobs have also been created to support new projects and services delivered by Service Birmingham.
