Capita employees conquer Kilimanjaro raising £132,000 for charity

09/02/2010

Some 37 Capita employees nationwide recently embarked on a 10 day trip to climb the world’s tallest free standing mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. The climb was in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, with each employee set a fundraising target of £5,000. So far the climbers have raised £132,000, which goes toward the target of £1million which Capita has pledged to raise during its three year partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Capita trekkers raised the substantial sum through both sponsorship and novel fundraising ideas and events including a charity boxing night, a charity ball, speed dating events, pub quizzes, as well as raffles and auctions.

Shona Nichols, corporate communications director at Capita says “Everyone at Capita is extremely proud of all those employees who took on this challenge of a lifetime. The commitment and effort put in by each individual to raise such a substantial sum of money to support Macmillan’s invaluable work is truly phenomenal. ”

Rachel Gascoigne, corporate account manager from Macmillan says “We are extremely grateful for all the work that Capita and its employees have done to raise funds for Macmillan to date. The Kilimanjaro trip has raised a fantastic amount of money which will help us provide practical, emotional, medical and financial support for those living with cancer, as well as their families, carers and the communities.”

Standing at 5,896m above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain that untrained climbers can attempt.
