The Capita Group Plc has signed a contract with the Department of Health to manage The Information Standard, a new certification scheme for the production of health and social care information. The contract is worth £5.25 million over three years and the standard is due to be launched later this summer.
Under the scheme, any health and social care provider, whether public, private or voluntary sector, can apply to be certified. Those that meet the criteria will be able to place the quality mark on their materials so people searching for health and social care information can easily identify it as coming from a reliable, trustworthy source.
Capita will be responsible for impartially overseeing the operation of the scheme, including developing detailed rules and procedures and authorising a number of certification bodies to carry out assessments.
This appointment highlights the depth and breadth of Capita’s health expertise and further demonstrates its commitment to, and investment in, the health sector. Capita already runs the NHS Choices programme and has recently acquired healthcare information specialist, CHKS Limited, Membership Management Online (MMO) and NHS Membership Services – both NHS membership businesses.
Chris Sellers, Capita’s managing director for health, comments: “Improving patient experience is Capita’s chief focus in the healthcare market, and this deal helps us move towards that goal. We are delighted to have this opportunity to manage The Information Standard for the Department of Health and are looking forward to helping citizens have access to reliable, trustworthy information, allowing them to make confident, informed choices about their care.”
