Almost all of our employees are office based meaning that our environmental impacts are those associated with normal modern office facilities. Through internal and external consultation we have identified our significant impact areas, both those where the impacts are Group-wide and those where individual Capita businesses have specific impacts (such as our IT businesses).
Our main Group-wide environmental impacts are from:
- Energy use and business travel
- Resource use and waste management
- Our supply chain.
We focus on minimising our energy use at our sites, reducing business travel, and managing our wider impacts on the environment. All of our sites work to the ISO14001 environmental management system and 47 of our sites are accredited with this standard. The Group Finance Director is responsible for overseeing the implementation of our environmental policy across the Group, supported by our Group Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) Team. The Group SH&E Team works with a network of site managers, SH&E advisers and FM managers at site, business and divisional level across the Group.
We also work in partnership with our clients to help them to reduce their environmental impacts. Many of our clients’ operations are largescale, where our recommendations for environmental improvement have the potential to deliver substantial benefits. We have worked with our clients to introduce paperless billing, consolidate IT server facilities and introduce video conferencing to replace travel.
