Community volunteering projects
Community volunteering projects
Over 50 of our employees participated in 'Give and Gain' day, a national day of volunteering. Various events took place across the country, ranging from helping out at a local youth club to creating allotment gardens in schools.
Sport Inspired Community Games
Capita employees based in London volunteered in the first ever BITC-SportInspired Community Games day. This saw our employees take on numerous roles to help primary school children discover or rediscover and experience a variety of sports, with the purpose to increase youth participation in sport.
The roles taken on by the volunteers included being a team leader of a group of children to take them between each activity, being a mentor to help the children with the sports and to keep motivation levels high, and scoring the different events going on throughout the day. The sports were extremely varied and included, basketball, cricket, iyenga yoga, goalball (a Paralympic sport played by visually impaired people) and touch rugby.
Both the children and our employees had a thoroughly enjoyable day and the event ran particularly smoothly with the help of the volunteers.
Sea Mills project
Ten Capita TVL Staff took part in a project in Sea Mills which involved renovating a Youth Club.
The Youth Club had half of their funding from the council cut and needed a lot of work done. With only one paid member of staff there were no cleaning regimes in place, and the 1970’s building was very run down. The club had received many donations of toys and equipment etc. that they never discarded when finished with. This meant that every room was cluttered and dusty and needed plenty of organising to bring it back to life.
As it was a large task, we joined forces with Constellation Europe to bring our ideas together. Our volunteers were split into four separate teams and were given certain projects to complete.
These projects included, de-cluttering the games room, cleaning and painting the kitchen area and music room, and seeing to the overgrown garden area.
Both the volunteers and owners of the youth club were extremely impressed with the outcome of the day. Rich Moran, Capita employee said "Although it was hard work, it was a very enjoyable and rewarding day. We’re looking forward to signing up for next year already!"
