We support a number of charitable initiatives
In addition to our involvement in local communities we also support a number of charitable activities, including some key clients’ initiatives through our ‘Capita Helping Hands’ programme.
Our charity partner
We select one charity partner to benefit from our fundraising activities Group-wide. In 2008, our employees chose Macmillan Cancer Support as our charity partner for the next two years. At the end of 2009, and with the support of our employees, we decided to extend our partnership for a further year due to the high level of employee engagement.
In 2009, we raised £440,000 for Macmillan, taking our total to £800,000 towards our target of raising £1 million. The central Charity Team organised a number of Group-wide activities throughout the year, including our annual Capita Challenge and Charity Week. We also organised for a group of 40 employees to climb Kilimanjaro, raising £135,000 for Macmillan. Through our sponsorship of the Macmillan Winter Ball all £152,000 generated at the event went directly to Macmillan.
Payroll giving
We support the charitable efforts of our employees through a central payroll giving scheme: 1,400 of our employees donate to charity this way. We worked with professional fundraisers from ‘Hands on Helping’ who visited our sites and helped to promote the scheme to our employees. We received the Silver payroll giving quality mark by HMRC for the second year running, recognising that over 5% of our employees donate to charity through this scheme. Our aim is to receive the Gold payroll giving mark at the end of 2009.
Matched funding
Through our matched funding scheme we provide additional financial support for employees who raise funds individually, donating over £70,000 in 2009. Their efforts are recognised and celebrated through our employee recognition awards, which include an award for charitable support and community engagement.
