Career evolution case study

Graham Cowley, Executive Director, Capita Symonds

"I was Assistant Director at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council before being TUPE transferred to Capita in July 2001. Although I was excited at the prospect of joining a large, private company, I was also concerned about my pension entitlements and whether Capita would provide me with the opportunity to develop my role.

"Speaking to Capita representatives face-to-face help alleviate some of my worries about the transfer. During the transition period we were given staff packs, personnel guidance and the opportunity to attend numerous briefings, small discussion groups and one-to-ones which I found most helpful.

"The continuous communication and engagement gave me confidence that Capita is a company that genuinely values and develops its staff. I have enjoyed a steady career progression since my transfer, achieving a number of accomplishments, not least of which playing a part in winning the partnership with Salford City Council."
